Learning to draw a pirate ship is a great way to start any day-
especially if we are going on a treasure hunt! I was SO impressed with how
quickly the crew learned to draw a pretty amazing ship of their own!
We read about a Pirate named Mark that liked to travel on his ship under the stars! He also enjoyed eating chocolate bars! We started looking for patterns in the words in the story and then set off for a treasure hunt of as many words with the "ar" sound that we could find. It proved to be a little more challenging than they thought because I added "ar" words with a different sound such as "carry."
Here is what our map looked like when we started. We had to FILL it up with
enough words to stretch to the treasure box.
We think it is enough words!!
The crew did an incredible job in the hall talking softly and listening
to each other as they shared the words they found.
The crew gave their pirate friends a thumbs up if they agreed the
word they found had the "ar" sound we were looking for!
Since we filled the chart we enjoyed our treasure which was
a chocolate BAR!
We continued our learning as we studied pirate vocabulary with and without the "ar" sound. The crew practiced translating sentences from Pirate language to our language and also writing sentences in Pirate Language to help us get ready for "Talk Like a Pirate Day."
