Fraction Cookie FUN!!

I love this lesson!  I post on chart paper 3 or 4 fractions and let the crew sign up for which fraction of a cookie they want!  Then I pass out their piece cookie and the fraction conversation begins!!!

Here is the crew holding up their share of a cookie!  We talk about how our
cookie pieces are different and right away they noticed that the pirates that chose
the fraction with a smaller number on the bottom got a BIGGER piece of the cookie.
Then they pointed out that whoever chose a LARGER number on the bottom of a fraction
ended up getting a smaller piece of the cookie.  Brillant!

Of course they wanted to EAT up the size they chose!

We watched a FRACTION Brain Pop and
then they got a whole cookie and we started making fractions like 1/2, 1/4, and 1/8!

The conversation then led to equal shares and unequal shares!

We finished up with a book about fractions, then the crew got to revise their answer and choose what part of a cookie they would like to try at the end of the day.  There were a LOT of changes on the chart. We definitely had to eat extra cookies today,  but I think it was worth it for a lesson that will "STICK" to their brain!!!!
